The original DeWalt company was founded by Raymund E. DeWalt in 1924. It has since changed ownership, and today it is owned by Black & Decker which markets its professional-grade and high-end power tools under the DeWalt name.
Among these products is the DeWalt D51238K Brad Nailer. Housed in a magnesium casing colored with the trademark yellow and black of all DeWalt tools, this brad nailer is lightweight, weighing only 2.8 lbs., making it easy to use even when nailing overhead trim or molds. It is designed for 18 gauge nails with lengths varying from 5/8 to 2 inches.
The nail magazine is straight-angled and can carry up to 110 nails. It is side-loading and it has a side low-nail indicator indicating when it is time to replenish the nails. With its high capacity, though, this is not going to be too often. The nails are driven into the wood with an air pressure ranging from 70 – 120 PSI. This depends on the size of the nail, and how deep you want it to penetrate into the wood.
Adjustment of nail depth requires no tools. The same is true when clearing the occasional jamming of nails. At the back of the unit is an exhaust channel for air and dust from the nailer. This can be rotated 360° so you can direct it anywhere except towards your face. The grip of the nailer is padded with a non-slip textured material that assures a firm and comfortable hold even after prolonged work.
Featuring a sequential trigger firing mode, the nailer is safe to operate, as it requires the user to press the muzzle against the object to be fastened before the trigger can be fired. The trigger can also be locked when not in use to prevent accidental discharge.
The DeWalt D51238K Brad Nailer comes with safety glasses, Allen wrench, and a sturdy tool box. It measures 2.3" x 8.75" x 8.5".
