Boasting of a system referred to by DeWalt as Sealed Lube Dual Technology, the DeWalt D51276K Angled Finish Nailer can run with or without oil. You can therefore use it for sensitive work which you cannot risk contaminating with oil. When nailing wood, on the other hand, you can lubricate it with oil to help minimize wearing out its seals and rings.
The nailer fires 15 gauge 1- to 2½-inch long nails, which are ideal for fastening moldings, panels, and trims as well as for working with cabinets, frames, furniture, and arts and crafts projects. The rear-loading magazine is angled requiring nails collated at 34°. Such an angle allows the nozzle of the nailer to access tight work spaces.
Finish work typically requires precise placement of nails, and it is for this reason that the DeWalt D51276K features a sequential action trigger only. This requires you to first press the nozzle against your work before you can fire the gun, and to release it fully and push it against another location in the work surface before you can shoot another nail. For added safety, the trigger is fitted with a trigger lock.
With an operating pressure ranging from 70 to 120 PSI, you are assured that your nails will flush with your work, even when working with hardwoods such as oak. Before increasing compressed air pressure if your nails are not going deep enough, however, try adjusting the depth-of-drive wheel. This is mounted in front of the trigger and it requires no tool to adjust.
A low-profile no-mar pad made of rubber comes with the unit. It easily installs on the nailer's nozzle to prevent scratching your work. In case of a nail jam, the nozzle is easily opened by hand to remove the offending nail.
At the other end of the nailer is an excess air exhaust vent that can be rotated 360° to direct air away from you. The tool handle right below the vent has an overmolded padding, which means it is comfortable to grip. Completing the nailer is an adjustable belt hook that works for right- and left-handed workers.
