Powered by an oil- and maintenance-free motor, the Porter-Cable FN250C Finish Nailer is a convenient and easy-to-use tool that will not soil your work with oil escaping with the compressed air from the piston's chamber. In spite of the lack of oil lubricating its moving parts, it remains a reliable and durable tool.
The FN250C nailer fires 16 gauge FN style finish nails with lengths varying from 1 – 2½ inches. These are contained in a rear-loading magazine with a capacity of 100 nails. Reloading is done in a load and lock style. A low-nail indicator is incorporated giving you advance notice before you run out.
With an internal piston catch, the nailer fires maximum power consistently with each shot, thus assuring uniform depth of drive. This, of course, can be adjusted without need of any tool by using a dial mounted in front of the trigger. The dial even has detents to assure that the adjustment will not shift while the nailer is in use. Operating between 70 – 120 PSI, the nailer can work with both softwoods and hardwoods.
The exhaust mechanism at the rear of the main body of the nailer is also adjustable tool-free. Simply rotate it to point in any direction away from your work and you. At the other end of the nailer is a non-marring nose tip that protects the surface of your work from scratches or nicks. Immediately behind this is the jam release mechanism that is likewise tool-free. All you need to do is to pull a lever to open the top portion of the nail guide and access the offending nail.
The trigger is of a sequential style. This means that the nailer will only fire when its nose tip is pressed against your work and the trigger is pulled. This firing system is appropriate as the FN250C is a finish nailer requiring precise and neat nail placement. In the interest of safety, a lock off switch is incorporated with the trigger.
The casing of the Porter-Cable FN250C Finish Nailer is made of die-cast aluminum, making it lightweight and thus easy and comfortable to use. Its integrated rubber grip further adds to this.
The tool measures 10.6" x 11.8" and weighs 3.85 pounds.
